The obligatory ‘About me’ bit
Clay vessels have been made and used by people for over 20,000 years; an ancient alchemy combining mud and fire, and I love being able to continue this tradition in my tiny, one-person ceramics studio in Newcastle, NSW, on Awabakal land.
For whom it might be important, I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Honours in Ecology, a Diploma in Health Science, and a mixed career in fisheries research and university administration in medical schools.
But I have always been drawn to creativity. I spent my childhood in the wild highlands of Papua New Guinea, and when it comes down to it, I just like playing in the mud and getting my hands dirty. I have a Certificate in Furniture Design and have worked for furniture makers and antique restorers, but my real passion is ceramics, where my training in science and design collide.
My particular interest, and love, is in creating functional ceramics to be used in celebrating the rituals of everyday life - in finding beauty in the mundane.
